More than just a
Jazz Orchestra…
Yes, we chose the name Vancouver Jazz Orchestra Society, but our mission goes far beyond that. The VJO Society serves as a cultural institution in our city; fostering growth, community, and development in Vancouver’s jazz scene. We do this through…

Fraser MacPherson Scholarship
Our annual “Fraser MacPherson Scholarship” program which provides financial support and mentorship to the next generation of B.C.’s most talented artists (both Secondary and Postsecondary levels)

Vancouver Youth Jazz Orchestra
The Vancouver Youth Jazz Orchestra which performs at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and offers a mentorship-based program, incorporating professionals from the VJO into each section (ie. a pro mentor in the sax section, and the trombone section, etc.)

Free Workshops & Outreach
We offer free workshops to the public featuring both local and international artists.
We also offer outreach through performances at local highschools to inspire and educate kids.

Recording & New Works
Commissioning and recording new works, composed and arranged by local musicians, helping to build a repertoire of uniquely Vancouver-based music.
And yes, also a Jazz Orchestra!…
The VJO serves to highlight our city’s stellar local musicians, both young and not-so-young, in fun, creative and engaging performances throughout our concert season while also focusing on a rotating roster of excellent players so that relationships are fostered between musicians, and the VJO can showcase the diversity of the amazing jazz scene that we have.
We are making a difference in our city’s Arts landscape, and the more support we receive, the more we can do. Please join our cause and consider supporting the VJO Society today!
